It's been quite a year, hasn't it?
Susan Sarandon (Janet) hosted the 69th
Annual Academy Awards, Mickey Mouse
turned 69 ... even Thomas Bros. Maps
added 666 new streets this year!!! Tim
Curry got a new sitcom (and lost a new
sitcom), Rocky Horror (featuring: Midnight
Insanity!) was on the Drew Carey show, and
heck, Ellen came out. Lesse, there was that
CONVENTION that we put on in June, two
"away" shows (Northridge and San Diego),
with one more in the oven (read on).
Midnight Insanity, all said and done,
performed to approximately 600 audience
members on Halloween weekend alone. Yup,
it's been a busy year, but we're not done yet!
The holidays are upon us, and Midnight
Insanity's 10th Birthday Celebration is right
around the corner. Tonight is the second-
to-last "Lingerie Night" of the year, so join
us up on stage and show Old Man Winter
that it hasn't gotten the best of us yet!
As you may recall, we had a number of recent departures from Midnight Insanity, which opened the doors for new people to come in. Last week we had a new Columbia, "Melissa", who comes to us from the Arizona area, and put on a simply stunning first performance on our stage. Yup, I think she's a keeper. She'll be switching off nights with our new/old Columbia, Leisa. Leisa performed with Midnight Insanity from ~1990 to ~1996 ... most of that time, playing Columbia. After a year off, Leisa's has finally returned to the |
stage. Though it's not really a "new" thing,
Kristine reprises her role as Magenta this
evening, for the first time in ~2 years. We
also have new tech people (yes, the unsung
heroes), Robert, Colleen and Pete. Yes,
that's a lot of new folk, but don't get
discouraged. We still need Transylvanians,
so don't be shy about signing up!!!
Okay, so it's been a while since we
had a Foreign Correspondent. Midnight
Insanity *is* truly World Famous ... did we
mention that? The last report we got back
was from Shiera, who saw Rocky Horror in
France. She told us it was a war-zone where
the theatre *limited* the amounts of crap
you could bring in with you. Sounds darned
cool, but it's certainly not a place where
you'd want to get dressed up or anything.
Well, our latest report comes from Jan and
Mariah, who are studying out in Italy, but
managed to get out to London to see
"Charming Underclothes", the Rocky cast
there. According to them, Rocky, as cool as
it was in London, apparently does not
outrank the shows put on by Midnight
Insanity. How's *that* for a rave review?
They also say there are no smog laws out
there, so even the *air* is better in L.A., as
unbelievable as that might be. At any rate,
we thank them for their kind words and look
forward to their return to the states in
mid-December.
Need an extra Rocky fix? Well, you're in luck. Midnight Insanity is about to invade |
Redlands (Redlands University, to be exact).
The show is scheduled for this Tuesday,
December 2nd, at 9pm. Directions are
available in the lobby, or you can dial 714-
772-RHPS for more information (as always).
Oh, and did we mention that this was a
FREE SHOW? Yup, all you gotta do is get
your collective butts out to Redlands! Come
see the cast, `cause you'll need one of us to
get in for free. Oh, and if you feel the need
to return the favor, I'm sure we can think of
something.
January 17th, 1998 is the date you
need to remember. Your faithful, loving
home-cast, "Midnight Insanity", is about to
turn 10 YEARS OLD, and we're planning a
huge celebration! Bring the WORLD to the
theatre. Anybody and everybody who's ever
seen our show should be here (and yes,
virgins are still welcome). Many old cast
members will be in attendance, so you'll see
a lot of your old favorites. We'll also have
special guests flying in from various casts
from around the country. Hey, it's not every
day that a cast turns 10 ya know!!! We hope
to make this a night to remember, and we
certainly hope you'll be here to experience it
firsthand, rather than read about it later.
Make your plans now and tell your friends.
10th Birthday is only 7 shows away!!!
Boy does time fly when you're having fun. Speaking of birthdays, it's been FOUR YEARS since Jen first stepped on stage as Midnight Insanity's Janet! Jen started out as a Trannie, right about the time of Rocky's 18th Anniversary Convention, "Age of Consent" (yes, thrown by Midnight Insanity), and moved forward to become our youngest Janet, a week before her 15th Birthday. Now |
that I think about it, this makes Jen the
LONGEST running Janet in Midnight
Insanity's history! We know she's been
absent, somewhat, recently, but there's bills
to pay and she *did* promise that she'd tell
her work to !@$*#!%! and be here this week
to perform for you. Now, don't you feel
special??? Congratulations, Jen!
After only three shows, Tim Curry's
new sitcom, "Over the Top", got the axe.
How unjust is that?! It doesn't take a
rocket scientist to figure out that a show
can't well pick up a following in only three
shows, especially when it premieres a whole
month late!! Also, it certainly wasn't a lack
of talent and caused the show's demise. In
fact, the main rumor is that the show was
killed as a result of a spat between network
executives (and ex-lovers). You'll have to
hunt the `net for the exact details, but we
say it's pretty darned unprofessional. At
any rate, we mourn for Tim's lost sitcom,
and hope that he isn't dismayed ... Perhaps
he will try again next season. Such a
shame.
Midnight Insanity would like to thank the Art Theatre Management and crew, for allowing us to perform here *every fucking week*; the Management and crew of the Woodland Hills Theatre (Topanga), for largely the same reasons; The Shorehouse Café in Seal Beach, for feeding our tired and weary mouths after every Saturday's performance (see the cast for details); Tim Curry, for giving TV a shot in the arm, even if only for a few weeks, it was nice to see you again; and, of course, you, our loving and faithful audience, who come to see us, *every fucking week*!!! |
