Good GOD!!! Two weeks ago, your
home cast, Midnight Insanity, celebrated
it's 10th Birthday, to a packed house!!! We
couldn't have asked for more! The line went
down the street and around the corner. As
a Rocky cast member, I can tell you there
are few greater things to see ... save
possibly for a line that went down the street
and around the corner, dressed in Lingerie
... but we'll get to that shortly. A 10-year
legacy of audience members, a tribute to
past and present MI cast members, and one
kick-ass Special Performance rounded out
the night. We are truly touched that so
many of you made it down to celebrate with
us. As such, we have more good things in
store for you ... read on.
There were dark storm clouds, heavy,
black, and pendulous, hanging over our first
Lingerie Night of 1998. What a pisser. Ah
well, that's what you get when you don't cut
a deal with Mother Nature. We'll try to
negotiate something better for the rest of
the year. If you're unaware, Midnight
Insanity's Traditional Lingerie Night takes
place on the Last Saturday of Every Month!!
If you can't wait that long, there's always.
Ah yes, the day of flying arrows, chocolate candies and gobs of dough for folks like Conroy's. Given that Valentine's Day falls on a Saturday this year, you can bet Midnight Insanity will be celebrating it in style ... possibly with a Special Performance ... just for you!! :-) It's also been a kind of |
traditional "extra" Lingerie Night, as it was
the very first one we held, way back in 1992
(yes, we've been presenting you scantily clad
guys and gals for that long!!) So if you
didn't dress up tonight, dress up in two
weeks. Oh, and for you keen folk out there,
you'll realize that this also means the
preceeding Topanga show will take place on
Friday the 13th. What they're planning,
exactly, I'm not quite at liberty to say, but
you can be assured it'll have that Topanga
Twist to it!!!
Now's the time we say goodbye to a handful of our cast and friends. Last week we bade goodbye to Jennifer (Janet), who is Midnight Insanity's longest performing Janet, and began performing with us at the ripe age of 14, in December of 1993 ... we will miss her. Additionally, also departing are Allan Zabecki (Pre-Show), Steve G. (Frank), Robert M. (Crim), and T.C. (Trixie). Reasons for leaving range from school, to work, to jobs in Michigan (yes, Michigan). We are sad to see so many go, and certainly hope to see them back from time to time. On a more positive note, we have Kelly now performing in the role of Janet. Kelly performed with Midnight Insanity for a couple of years and did a few Janet performances with us at the 20th Anniversary in 1995. She's also been performing regularly on Friday nights up at Topanga. Of course, this also means it's opportunity time for all you would-be stage performers (especially those who don't want to wait for our Rookie Horror Show) ... we have roles available and are looking for people, so if you're interested in performing, *do* come see the cast after the show!! |
Speaking of Conventions, the folks in
New York have decided to put on a Rocky
Convention!! The convention will take place
on Saturday, April 4th, at "The Vault", a
famous S&M club, and at the Village East
Cinema, for the "usual" festivities. Various
members of MI will be making the cross-
country trek, so if you want to hook up with
us, let us know NOW!!! Additional info will
hopefully be added to our web page,
sometime soon (see bottom of page for our
web address). As a precursor warning, hotel
rooms in New York are *expensive*, so the
more people you stuff into a room, the
better. In other words, bring your friends.
:-)
Yup!! The saga continues. If you've
been around the past half-year or so, you
know that Tim Curry had a show called "Over
the Top" that was quickly canned by the
studio execs down at ABC. Well, have no
fear, as Tim Curry has just signed a
lucrative deal with the WB network (Channel
5 here in LA) to star in a closely-guarded
"fish-out-of-water" series called "The Tim
Curry Show." The show is designed to build
on the momentum of other shows like "Buffy
the Vampire Slayer" and "Dawson's Creek".
The WB has given Tim a huge guarantee,
which probably means they'll broadcast
more than a whole three #%@&!!! Episodes,
ala ABC.
Tim's not the only one who has something on the horizon. If you'll recall, our good friend, Richard O'Brien, is featured in a new movie entitled "Dark City". This movie is directed by Alex Proyas, the acclaimed director/writer of "The Crow". This movie scheduled to open on February 27th. |
Need a little something to warm up
your evening?? Well, how about a bit of
gossip. When the boys are away, the
ladies will play. Sources tell us that the
gals of Midnight Insanity got together one
night, swapped stories, sucked down some
recreational fluids, and then decided
partake in a little Skinny Dipping. :-)
Additionally, after getting good and sauced,
they dialed up one of our Frank-N-Furters to
take care of their "desires". We don't really
know exactly what transpired after that,
but we thought your enquiring minds would
like to know.
Speaking of ... did you know that
Spike and Mike's "Sick and Twisted Festival
of Animation" is in town?? Yup, playing right
here at the Art Theatre, through February
19th, and on Fridays at Midnight, through
April 10th. The festival features the original
South Park animated short, "The Spirit of
Christmas", a Speed Racer parody, and "The
Devil Went Down to Georgia", as sung by Les
Claypool of Primus. Pamphlets are in the
lobby.
Midnight Insanity would like to thank
the Art Theatre & Woodland Hills
Management and crew, for allowing us to
perform *every fucking week*; Denny's and
Shorehouse Café, for giving us a place to
crash after the show; everyone who showed
up for our big 10th B-day; and, of course,
you, our loving and faithful audience, who
come to see us, *every fucking week*!!!
