Talk about getting pummeled by the
storms. It's been an *extremely* wet month
with record-setting rains in the month of
February ... except tonight. :-) We here, at
the Rocky Horror Picture Show made a deal
with the powers-that-be, in order to provide
dry weather for the evening's festivities. It
is, of course, our traditional (and your
favorite) end-of-the-month show, Lingerie
Night!!! Time to get dressed in your sexiest
lingerie, mount the stage and strut your
stuff. If you didn't come dressed tonight,
well, there's always next month ... we'll see
what strings we can pull with the weather...
Speaking of February, we truly
appreciate you dedicated individuals who
braved the inclement weather to come and
see us anyway. For those of you who did
not, we should tell you that you missed a
few things. :-) We had an "unplugged"
performance on February 7th, a Special
Performance on Valentine's Day weekend, as
well as a schoolbus full of kids come to visit
us (including about half-a-dozen guys in
drag) last weekend ... many of them virgins.
We just love it when people bring us busloads
of people (especially virgins!!) Since the
state forces y'all to go to school anyway,
perhaps you could bring us back a virgin or
two?? :-)
Tacky Horror ... also known as "Switch Night", is on the horizon. This is the evening in which several of your Midnight |
Insanity favorites swap costumes and roles
with their other fellow cast members, and
perform in someone else's shoes for the
night. It's a hilarious romp, and is usually
accompanied by some of the best once-in-a-
lifetime performances. Some memorable
performances include Diego as Trixie (a
picture is up on our website), Fozzie as
Trixie, Becky as Smurf-anything, and again,
there's that really big cat that shows up.
But, I digress ... traditionally, Tacky Horror
is the first weekend in April. This date is
pending, as we haven't exactly decided yet,
but I thought I'd give you all fair warning,
anyway. :-)
Now, of course, the main thing
clashing with Tacky Horror, is the 23rd
Annual Transylvanian Convention (Rocky Con
'98) in New York City, New York! After many
years of hosting conventions on the West
Coast (Los Angeles, Long Beach, Las Vegas,
Beverly Hills, Anaheim), the East Coast
casts have decided to let us pay the air fare
for once. We'd love to bring you all along, but
it's getting harder and harder to hijack a
plane these days. For the moment, we'll see
what we can do to bring back a handful of
souvenirs for you all. If you're interested at
all, the convention takes place on the first
weekend in April, and you can find out more
info from the link on the Midnight Insanity
website: http://www.midnightinsanity.org
Okay, I got a little more information on "The Tim Curry Show". This is a show that is being backed by the WB Network |
(KTLA, Channel 5) and will hopefully be ready
this fall. TV Guide had an article about it in
the Feb 21-27 issue, which likened the new
series to a contemporary "Addams Family".
Sounds pretty cool to us. This info comes
to us from the Tim Curry mailing list on the
Internet. You can find out more about in on
the "Links" page of the Midnight Insanity
website...
Having not gotten out there myself
just yet, I can't personally comment, but I
thought I'd drop a reminder note that
Richard O'Brien (Riff Raff, author/creator of
The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and the
person who wrote all those nifty songs) is in
a new movie entitled "Dark City", which
opened, er, yesterday. This movie is directed
by Alex Proyas, who did "The Crow", a long
time favorite of our audience. It also has
Jennifer Connelly ("Labyrinth" and "The Hot
Spot") in it. :-)
And that's not all!!! Richard O'Brien
and Meatloaf appear in "Spice World", the
new Spice Girls movie. Sorry, we don't know
where, so you'll have to sit through all of it.
:-( In addition, Susan Sarandon will be
appearing in a new movie with Paul Newman.
The movie is called "Twilight". No word yet
on when it will be released... As for Barry
Bostwick ... well, Barry is still playing Mayor
Randall Winston on ABC's "Spin City", and in
fact, Barry just had a birthday (2/24).
Birthday wishes also go out to Johnathan
Adams (2/14) and Richard O'Brien (3/25).
Midnight Insanity has several, er, openings ... no wait, ummm, "positions" ... no no no, ummm, well anyway, we're looking for some sturdy people ... yeah, that'll do. We could use some more Transylvanians, |
we're looking for a Rocky, a Criminologist,
and understudies in all roles. If you've ever
wanted to bask in the glow of a spotlight, to
stand atop the Midnight Insanity stage and
gaze upon all you survey, to join the ranks of
one of the worlds most famous casts ...
come see us after the show!! We also have a
Friday night show in Woodland Hills, and are
looking for performers for that show as well.
If you've been with us for a while, you
know about the Midnight Insanity curse. It
seems everywhere we've gone (outside of a
theatre, anyway), has caused death and
destruction, from Poorman's UHF television
show to the Stephanie Miller show on the
UPN. A hotel we performed at in Las Vegas
was blown up on New Years '97, and we've
shut down more karaoke places than we can
count. It's all the stranger that various
cast members and associated regulars have
been frequenting Tuesday night shows of
"The Fab Four", a Beatles' Cover Band, for
almost a year now. In addition, we've
habitually run into various other Rocky
regulars there. :-) The band plays for
several hours, churning out high quality
Beatles music, and if you get there before
8pm, there's no cover charge!! The Fab Four
performs at Music City, located in Fountain
Valley at Brookhurst & Garfield, Tuesdays.
Midnight Insanity would like to thank the Art Theatre Management & Woodland Hills Theatre Management and crew, for allowing us to perform *every fucking week*; Denny's and Shorehouse Café, for giving us a place to crash after the show; whoever brought us that schoolbus ... that was *cool*. Virgin-sacrificing regulars ... you all work so hard. And, of course, you, our loving and faithful audience, who come to see us, *every fucking week*!!! |
