Well folks, we just heard that Earvin 'Magic' Johnson will receive his star on the
Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, June 21, 2001 at 11:30 a.m. ... and that it will
be placed right in FRONT of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
We have NO idea how long the ceremony will last, but traffic is going to be horrendous and Hollywood Blvd. may even be shut down. Lord knows if there will be any parking left.
Soooo, if you're coming in early on Thursday ... at a minimum, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel recommend arriving at 9:30am at the latest. If not, you might want to find something else to do in the area, and wait till 1pm or so to head over to the Roosevelt. Check-in time is officially 3pm.
If you *do* decide to head in and want to avoid traffic on Hollywood Blvd. You may want to take Sunset instead. Here are the original maps, with new directions at the bottom:
Take the 101 to Sunset ... head West. About a mile-and-a-half (and probably a
little more), you'll want to turn Right on N. Orange Drive. This appears to be
the street after Hollywood High School (on your right).
Head up N. Orange Drive ... look for the Hollywood Roosevelt on your left, and a parking structure on your right. Turn right before the parking structure and park in the "Quality Parking" lot, just past the parking structure ... it's cheaper. :-)
Additional information on the Parking Lot (with instructions for those coming in from Hollywood Blvd) are located here.
